Rains Bring Us Back to Fishing Southern Oregon's Rivers

1/15/2020

Rains bring us back to work. We ended up getting a little bit of rain, and ODFW lifted fishing closures on the Chetco River, in Brookings Oregon, along with the Elk River and Sixes river near port Orford Oregon. Saturday the Chetco still had a few salmon. We caught a couple older fish, and one nice hatchery male that was new to the river.

After the Chetco had additional inch of rain that put it out of shape for a couple days, we headed north to the Sixes river where we enjoyed great weather, and several nice fish. With salmon season getting a late start we anticipate having good fishing for the rest of this month.

Cold Arrives On Our Last Rogue Trip Of The Season

Guests, crew and drift boats sit on the banks of the Rogue River.
The Isola group, great longtime customers of our guide Brian Wager, joined us on our Rogue River Adventure this week. Brian is one of our veteran canyon guides. This week the cold weather has arrived but this was also our last trip of the season. It is bitter sweet. I think Jessica will be thankful to not have to bake any pies for a little while. But all the pies she made this season were a hit and so delicious!! Can't wait to get back out in the Spring!

This week we had some really good friends from Montana join us on our Rogue River Wilderness Trip. Half-pounder fishing was fantastic! We had a few rain showers but then the sun graced us with its presence for the last 2 days. The fall colors are in full swing with vibrant red, orange and yellow that are simply amazing filling the canyon trees!! This is an excellent time of year to go on an adventure down the Rogue.

With so many amazing groups of guests and an awesome crew of guides we have a lot of fun on each and every trip. On this trip we got to see some Black Tail bucks roaming along the gravel bar. Skylar and the guests in his boat got to fight a fish while 3 bucks stood by observing!!

Over 20 fish were caught below Rainy Falls in a two hour period. At one point all 7 boats made a pass through the same hole and all 7 boats hooked up one after the other. A fun and fish filled day for sure!!

More Wet Weather Brings Salmon Further Up Rogue River

9/12/2019

This week we brought John Kenner and friends for an adventure down the Rogue River into the Southern Oregon wilderness. The rain seems to be sticking around, giving us a couple days of wet weather. But this also seems to have caused the fish to move up river faster than they ever have before. We were catching fish on our last day on the bottom end which was on September 10th. By the 12th we were getting that same group of fish 50 miles up river. The season is moving along!

Rogue River Rain, Cooler Temps Bring 30 Salmon

9/7/2019

We're into September and the Rogue River rain came early this year! This week enjoyed 2 days of cooler temperatures with the rain, which was a welcomed because it helped to cool the water temperature down. With the lowering water temperature we've seen our first real push of salmon,  though on our last day of fishing. We ended up catching right around 30 salmon, although majority of those were jacks. It was a welcome sight.

We have had another very nice weather trip down the Rogue River. The water conditions for boating have been excellent. The guests have been a real treat! The food at Black Bar, Marial Lodge and Singing Springs lodges continues to be outstanding. With fun filled evenings, enjoying dinner together, reminiscing about the day and what the next day has in store!

Hot Rogue Wilderness Trip With Great Steelhead

8/22/2019

This week week took Eric Ford and a group of 12 guests down the Rogue River for a fishing and wilderness adventure. It’s been a very hot trip so far! But having such a nice summer in Alaska has made it a little easier to adjust to the warm fall canyon season. We have had some awesome fishing this trip, with lots of adult steelhead, in fact the best we’ve seen for adult summer fish. Water temp was in the 70’s, which is the perfect temperature for the rapids to splash you and keep you cool as you drift down the river, or to take a dip in the river. With the current water temp the salmon have not left the rogue river bay to begin swimming up river yet.
